Nigerian Society Of Neonatal Medicine (NISONM) 10th AGSM 4-7th July 2017, IBADAN.

The 10th Annual General and Scientific Meeting of the Nigerian Society of Neonatal Medicine (NISONM) took place from 4th-7th July 2017 at Ibadan. The theme was “Imperatives in Neonatal Survival Initiatives in Nigeria: the Current State”.

The conference was preceded by Community Mobilization/Health Talks and a training of community health workers on Helping Babies Breathe and overview of modified Essential Newborn Care Course (mENCC), on 4th July 2017 at Lagelu LGA, Ibadan. A second pre-conference workshop on Newborn Respiratory Support (CPAP and Mechanical ventilation) was held on 5th July 2017 with many neonatologists, paediatricians, physicians and neonatal nurses in attendance.

At the conference, Professor Temitope Alonge, the CMD of UCH Ibadan chaired the opening ceremony; the Head of Child Health FMOH, Dr. Bose Adeniran, represented the Honourable Minister of Health, and Her Excellency, Mrs Toyin Saraki, President and Founder Wellbeing Foundation Africa, delivered the keynote address. Goodwill messages were delivered by several partners such FMOH, USAID, PAN, AAP, Save the Children, JHPIEGO, MCSP, and SOGON. Participants included members and participants from all geopolitical zones of the country, USA, UK, Netherlands, Ghana and South Africa. The NISONM National Newborn Discharge Guide, and draft NISONM translated Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) training charts to Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba were formally presented to the FMOH.
