THEME: SUSTAINING BREASTFEEDING TOGETHER
The LUTH today 9th of August 2017 marked its 2017 annual BF week in conjunction with NNIA. The activities targeted at rejuvenating the BFHI in LUTH consisted of lectures/presentations on: Sustaining BF together- it takes all of us to change the health indicators; how to sustain exclusive BF- practical strategies for today’s working mothers; Maternal nutrition during BF ; and last but not the least: Optimal BF- key to neonatal survival. The audience comprised of: Medical students undergoing their Neonatology postings, Nurses from all the child caring wards in LUTH (Labor ward, Children emergency, Neonatal wards, Lying-in wards, and Paediatric wards). Also in attendance were Nurses from the School of Nursing and Midwife and post basic Nursing; Paediatricians; Dieticians, Medical social workers etc. We were all enjoined to promote, educate and support our BF mothers. We also resolved to resume BF training for all workers in LUTH in line with the BFHI recommendations.
