• Providers of neonatal care are brought together with better collaborations. Regional members were also identified and they co-ordinate NISONM activities in their zones and giving feed back to the NISONM leadership.
  • The facilitation of the production of the Situation Analysis and Action Plan for Newborn Health in Nigeria in the context of the IMNCH strategy in 2009 which was launched by the then First lady of the FRN, Hajia Turai Yara’dua.
  • Launch of the Community-linkage programme in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government area of Delta State.
  • Development and launching of NISONM strategy document which articulated thoughts on modalities for improved maternal and newborn care in the community.
  • Neonatal Jaundice Project and the development of Nigerian consensus statement on Newborn Jaundice. This, the society is working on further by supporting some centres to have more activities on CURHe in Nigeria.  
  • Newborn discharge guide produced by NISONM in English and translated into the 3 common Nigerian languages of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba.
  • Trainings: these include Helping Babies Breathe Training, bubble CPAP training, Neonatal Ventilation training, neonatal respiratory support training, Essential newborn care course training, and Neonatal resuscitation training Research publications supported by the NISONM, one of such is: Evaluating effectiveness of simulation-based training strategy for teaching ENCC on the cognitive knowledge of different cadre of healthcare workers in Nigeria.
  • Distribution of Ambu Bag and Mask in selected communities trained on HBB.
  • Collaboration with NIPOSS towards elimination of ROP in Nigeria
  • PAN/NISONM Maternal and child survival Project (MCSP)
  • FMOH/PAN/NISONM/AAP collaboration- with support from AAP, 150 PAN/ NISONM members were trained on Essential Newborn Care through Training of trainers and Mannekins were provided so that stepdown trainings can subsequently be conducted all over the country.

Continued collaboration is mandatory to end preventable death for Nigerian mothers and new borns. PAN/NISONM have articulated clear guidelines and also a logbook implementation of the volunteer mentoring scheme has commenced in the MCSP project states of Kogi and Ebonyi. The implementation of this program in other states of the country is being worked on in another collaborative work with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
